Australia’s pace trio Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have all been signed as supplementary players for the upcoming Big Bash League season 14. While Cummins will be a part of the Sydney Thunder side, Starc and Hazlewood will represent their crosstown rivals, the Sixers for the upcoming season.

Both franchises would go on to confirm the signings on Thursday, December 12. Given that the trio will be busy with their international commitments, it is expected that they will not be taking a part a lot in the upcoming season. However, the trio are expected to be a part of the off-field side of things whenever their schedule permits. Cummins had been a part of the Thunder from the fifth to the ninth season, which was his last one in the competition.

Starc and Hazlewood have been with the Sixers from the very start and won the inaugural BBL title with the team, alongside Cummins as well.

What Cummins said about the move

Cummins claimed that he was really proud to be a part of the Thunder. The Australia captain said that the current squad is shaping up to be a special one.

“As a Western Sydney guy at heart, I’m really proud to be a part of the team this summer. While international duties mean I can’t be around as much as I’d like, I’m excited to have a voice and fully back the guys throughout the season.”

“It’s fantastic to have talent like Sam Billings back. I first played with him in Penrith, so our Western Sydney connection runs deep. He’s a great addition to the squad.”

“Having Davey Warner locked in for a full season is huge for us. It’s great to see the balance in the team, with so many leaders stepping up alongside the talented youth coming through.”

“This squad is shaping up to be something special, and it’s set to be an unreal season of Big Bash cricket. A big thank you to our fans – I can’t wait to see you out at a game during the season,” said Cummins.

The Sixers will start their BBL 14 campaign against the Melbourne Renegades on December 16, while the Thunder will face the Adelaide Strikers a day later. Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood are all currently involved in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.
