Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis bid adieu to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru with an emotional message on Instagram. In a heartfelt note, Du Plessis bid farewell to the franchise and expressed his gratitude to his RCB teammates, loyals fans and the team management. The 40-year-old said that he would cherish his time spent at RCB. The franchise did not retain their former captain Du Plessis ahead of the auction. Even during the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB did not exercise their Right to Match option for Du Plessis.
“As my chapter close with RCB I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey this has been. When I joined three years ago, I had no idea how this journey would unfold. But I fell in love with the city of Bengaluru and the amazing people of RCB. This place and its people have become a part of who I am, and I’ll carry these memories and the connections I’ve buit with me forever. Thank you for making these three years so special,” Du Plessis wrote on Instagram.

“As I say goodbye, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone. The fans, my teammates, the staff, coaches and owners . It’s been an honor to be apart of this journey with you . Much love,” he added.
Faf du Plessis to play for Delhi Capitals
Du Plessis, who kept his base price at Rs 2 crore, was sold to Delhi Capitals at the auction at Jeddah. The RCB star had a successful stint with RCB where he also led the franchise in last 3 years and led them to the playoffs in IPL 2024. He was also sensational with the bat as he scored 438 runs last season. It came after a brilliant run with the bat in 2023 when he scored over 700 runs for RCB.
England’s explosive batter Phil Salt is expected to take up Du Plessis’ opening slot as he will bat alongside Virat Kohli.
