Star Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc hailed India speedster Jasprit Bumrah’s unique action for his success across all three formats in recent times. Notably, Bumrah had a phenomenal day with the ball on the opening day of the first Test against Australia in Perth as he picked four wickets and ran through the Australian batting lineup.
After his sensational spell, Starc hailed the India captain for his marvellous bowling display and mentioned how his unique bowling action has contributed to his success massively. The Australia speedster also mentioned how he would never try imitating the action of his India counterpart which could well leave him injured.
“Maybe, he’s obviously got a fair bit of hyperextension in, that elbow and does, things, a lot of actions, one that you do. So, there’s no surprise that he’s been a fantastic bowler across the formats for a long time. And again, his skills were on show today as to how, how good he is. So, yeah, I’m sure there’s something in that release point. That’s significant to his action. It’s something a lot of people can’t do, so I’m not, I’m certainly not going to go and try it. I’ll probably snap,” Starc said in the press conference after the day’s play.

Bumrah’s phenomenal numbers in 2024
Filling in as skipper in Rohit Sharma’s absence, Bumrah was in full flow as he made his as he scalped four wickets in the day finishing with figures of 4/17 in ten overs. Bumrah got the prized scalps of Usman Khawaja (8), Smith, Marnus Labuschagne (2) and debutant Nathan McSweeney (10). The India speedster is the second highest wicket taker in Tests in 2024 with 45 scalps to his name from ten matches at an average of 15.37 and an economy of 3.06.
Apart from him, Mohammed Siraj (2/17) also chipped in with two wickets while debutant Harshit Rana also got the big wicket of Travis Head. Australia finished the day on 67/7 in reply to India’s 150 in the first innings trailing by 83 runs.
