India all-rounder Axar Patel reminded David Miller of the heartbreaking T20 World Cup 2024 final with a breathtaking catch in the third T20I against South Africa on Friday, November 13 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The incident took place in the 16th over of the second innings as Miller was once again entrusted with the task of taking South Africa home with his team needing 86 runs off five overs.
After scoring just 12 runs off the first 16 balls, Miller flicked Pandya for a six towards fine leg to get into the groove. The southpaw tried to whack another maximum off the very next delivery as he pulled a short delivery from the India all-rounder towards deep mid-wicket.
The ball seemed to be going well above Patel’s head, however, he quickly judged the height of the ball and timed his jump to perfection to safely catch the ball in his palms and completed a sensational grab. As a result, Miller had to depart for 18 (18) leaving South Africa on 142/5. Miller’s dismissal was similar to his wicket in the T20 World Cup final where he was caught at long off courtesy of a mind-boggling catch by Suryakumar Yadav on Hardik Pandya’s bowling.

Meanwhile, following Miller’s dismissal, South Africa required a whopping 77 runs off the last four overs. However, Marco Jansen didn’t surrender himself in front of the Indian bowling attack and played a marvellous knock of 54 (17) to take South Africa closer to a win. He was dismissed lbw with his team needing 18 off the last three balls and India eventually sealed the win by 11 runs. Heinrich Klaasen also played a belligerent knock of 41 off 22 balls for South Africa.
Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 3/37 while Varun Chakravarthy picked 2/52 in four overs. Earlier in the day, India posted a mammoth score of 219/6 in 20 overs with Tilak Varma scoring his maiden T20I century (107* off 56) while Abhishek Sharma also returned to form with his 25-ball 50.
