WI vs ENG: Andre Russell ruled out of remaining 3 T20Is, Alzarri Joseph returns
All-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against England, while Alzarri Joseph made a return to the team as West Indies revealed their squad for the next 3 matches. Russell had suffered a left ankle sprain during the 1st T20I against England and had missed the 2nd match of the series.
Russell had posted an update on his injury in the past few days and now will be out of the squad for the next 3 matches. In place of the all-rounder, West Indies have roped in Shamar Springer into the side. Springer had made his debut during the tour of Sri Lanka recently.
The second change sees Alzarri come into the side after serving his 2-match suspension. The pacer had an on-field altercation with the ODI captain Shai Hope during the 3rd and final match of the 50-over series recently and had walked off the ground. His actions were punished with a ban and now he has completed it.
Alzarri comes in place of Shamar Joseph.
“As the series moves to Saint Lucia, experienced all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out due to a left ankle sprain sustained during the opening T20I at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday. In his place, all-rounder Shamar Springer, fresh off two T20I games against Sri Lanka, will join the squad.”
“Alzarri Joseph, having completed his two-match suspension, will rejoin the squad in Saint Lucia for the crucial final leg of the series, replacing Shamar Joseph,” read the statement from Cricket West Indies.
England currently lead the series 2-0 after brilliant performances with the bat in the first 2 games.
