Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik wants India to spinner Varun Chakravarthy for the Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, Chakravarthy has been in phenomenal form since his comeback to international cricket in October. The wrist spinner recently picked a five-wicket haul in the second T20I against South Africa at St George’s Park, Gqeberha.

He became the fifth Indian bowler to achieve the milestone in T20Is and third from the country to pick a five wicket haul in South Africa. He registered figures of 5/17 in four overs and dismissed big hitters David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen for the second consecutive time in the series. Despite that, Chakravarthy’s career-best performance ended in vain as South Africa won the match by three wickets to level the series 1-1.

However, his sensational performance left Dinesh Karthik in awe who said that India will be making a ‘grave error’ if they don’t select him in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

“If India don’t pick VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY for the Champions Trophy , then they are making a grave error. Outstanding Bowler he is turning out to be,” Dinesh Karthik wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Chakravarthy made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021 and was further picked up the squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 after a stellar show in the IPL in UAE. However, he failed to live up to his standards in the mega event and remained wicket-less across three matches.

Chakravarthy’s remarkable return to international cricket

He finally made his comeback to the team this year during the series against Bangladesh and picked up 3/31 in four overs in the first T20I. He further scalped 2/19 in four overs in second T20I and later picked three wickets in the first T20 against South Africa. Since his comeback, the wrist spinner has picked 13 wickets from five matches at an average of 8.84 and economy of 5.75.

Gautam Gambhir Press Conference Highlights

The 33-year-old hasn’t played a single ODI yet and it remains to be seen whether he will get picked in the team for the ODI series against England in January which will serve as India’s preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025.
