Hobart Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee set a new benchmark in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) on Sunday, smashing a record-breaking 150* to claim the highest individual score in the league’s history. Lee’s remarkable innings helped her side secure a commanding victory over the Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Cricket Ground, marking a historic moment in women’s franchise T20 cricket.
The 32-year-old South African’s explosive knock included 12 sixes and 12 fours, amassing her unbeaten 150 off just 75 balls. In surpassing Grace Harris’s previous WBBL record of 136*, Lee’s innings also saw her set a record for the most sixes in a WBBL innings, surpassing Harris’s record of 11.
After early setbacks that saw the Hurricanes reduced to 16/2 within three overs, Lee took control, responding with successive sixes to kickstart her innings. Her half-century came off just 29 balls, and she reached her century off 51, showcasing her power and precision. Partnered by Elyse Villani in a century stand, Lee led the charge as Villani largely played the supporting role.
