Jake Fraser-McGurk not fussed about poor form ahead of IPL mega-auction

Young Australia opener Jake Fraser-McGurk is not thinking too much into his poor starts in ODI series vs Pakistan. Fraser-McGurk, who has failed to get a good start for Australia in the ongoing series said that he has been reading what is being written about him on social media.

Fraser-McGurk, who lit up the Indian Premier League following a terrific domestic season in Australia, has been going through a rough patch at the start of his career. The right-hander has scored just one fifty in 8 white-ball matches, and has not been able to get past 20 runs 6 out of those 10 times.

Speaking to SEN WA Breakfast show, JFM opened up on the poor run and said that his job was to not pay heed to the criticism and keep getting better every day.

“It’s pretty hard to miss you know, I’ve got a phone,” Fraser-McGurk joked on SEN WA Breakfast.

“It is quite amazing. You know, probably those two guys were calling me to be in the World Cup squad after making my way around the IPL, so it’s sort of a catch-22. But I think they’re always going to have opinions, that’s their job and it’s sort of my job to not really read into that too much as well,” Jake Fraser-McGurk further added.

The youngster argued that there was no need to change his technique as he had just scored a fifty against England before this series. Fraser-McGurk, since his debut in 2024 has an average of 20 in ODIs and 16.50 in T20Is. The batter worked extensively with Ricky Ponting in the Indian Premier League to improve his hitting ability.

“Yeah, I don’t see a point in changing,” Fraser-McGurk said.

“Honestly, if last game I hit 60 runs off 25 balls, then I don’t think we’re going to be having the same conversation. I can see their point of view, but I can also see where I’m coming from, which is the main thing,” he further added.

The batter is expected to be given a long rope by the Australian selectors in the build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
