Drugs, weapons and electronic devices seized during sweep from jail where the rapper is held
Rumours had earlier suggested that Diddy is being given special treatment inside New York’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC), and a new report has now revealed that federal authorities seized drugs, weapons, and electronic devices during the sweeping of the jail.
Sweep not related to Diddy’s arrest
The new development comes almost a month and a half following Diddy’s arrest on September 16; however, the sweep was “not related to Combs’ detention,” and performed as a “preplanned and coordinated” action by the Bureau of Prisons to ensure the “safety and security” of both inmates and staff.
Notably, MDC, New York, is notorious for its dilapidated conditions and fights among inmates. The detention centre has been under fire since summer after two fatal stabbings this summer, leading to murder charges against five inmates. In another horrifying incident, a man was stabbed 44 times by gang members, while a second person was stabbed in the spine with a makeshift ice pick.
U.S. attorney Breon Peace issued a stark warning to inmates declaring, “Violence will not be tolerated in our federal jails,” and adding a “warning to those who would engage in criminal conduct behind bars.”
MDC’s history with popular criminals
Over the years, the Brooklyn jail has housed many infamous criminals, such as Jeffrey Epstein, associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and cryptocurrency scandal figure Sam Bankman-Fried. Combs, a hip-hop mogul with high-profile Hollywood connections, has joined the disgraceful list courtesy of a plague of ever-emerging sexual assault charges against him. The embattled rapper has pled not guilty to all the charges he has been accused of.
Diddy denied bail twice
The music impresario, who has been facing over a dozen lawsuits related to his sex crimes, has been denied bail twice. The judges have argued that if released on house arrest, the mogul would use his wealth and power to obstruct the government’s case. In desperate measures to get him out of jail before his trial, his legal team has asked the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals to grant his release after facing rejection from two Manhattan judges. The arguments are set for Monday. Diddy will go for trial on May 5.
