India tour of England 2025: Ticket craze for 2nd Test in Edgbaston, Birmingham sets new record

Tickets for the first four days of the second Test in next year’s five-match series between England and India at Edgbaston, Birmingham, have been sold out. According to the iconic cricket ground, this marks the first time tickets for the first four days of a non-Ashes Test in England have been fully booked.
“Following unprecedented demand, general admission tickets for the first four days of the Men’s Test between England and India in 2025 are now sold out,” the Edgbaston Stadium stated.
India will commence their five-Test series in England at Headingley in Leeds on June 20. The second Test at Edgbaston is scheduled to begin on July 2. The series will run from June 20 to August 4, with matches in Leeds, Birmingham, London (Lord’s), Manchester, and London (The Oval).
India and England have delivered some thrilling cricket over the last few years. India dominated England during their 2021 tour, winning both the London Tests to secure a 2-1 lead. However, the fifth Test, scheduled to take place in Manchester, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The rescheduled Test was eventually played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, in July 2022. India had a golden opportunity to clinch a Test series victory in England but lost the match, with the hosts chasing down a 378-run target with seven wickets in hand. Jonny Bairstow, who scored twin centuries in the Test, and Joe Root combined for an unbeaten 269-run partnership to dash India’s hopes.
Jasprit Bumrah captained India in the rescheduled Test, stepping in for full-time skipper Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, who led India during the 2021 tour, stepped down as Test captain in January 2022.
India will return to England next year for the first time since the 2022 Test, marking the start of a new World Test Championship cycle for the team. It will be intriguing to see whether veteran players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R. Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja are included in the squad.
