India is all set to take on Australia in the 2nd Test at the Adelaide Oval on December 6. There was a 10-day gap between the 1st and 2nd Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series and both the teams will be well-rested and prepared for the challenge. The 2nd Test in Adelaide will be a day/night contest, which will be played with a pink ball. India, who are 1-0 up in the series, will have scores to settle in the pink ball Test vs Australia and bury the ghost of their previous outing at the same venue from 2020.
Let us understand what the weather and pitch conditions will be on offer, which will heavily influence the proceedings on Day 1. The Adelaide Oval’s head curator, Damian Hough, has predicted a balanced pitch for the second Test match at the iconic venue. However, light showers are forecast for Friday, which could influence the surface’s behaviour during the first two days. As the match progresses, the wicket is expected to favour bowlers, especially from Day 3 onwards.
Pink Ball Test: All you need to know
Pitch report for Adelaide Oval
The pink ball in day/night Tests is known for its pronounced swing, and conditions at the Adelaide Oval could add to the batters’ challenges. The head curator has confirmed that the pitch will feature a thick grass cover, which is expected to further assist the bowlers and make life tough for the batting line-up.
Historically, teams winning the toss have won only three out of six day/night Tests at the Adelaide Oval. Meanwhile, teams opting to bat first have won three out of the six day-night Tests in Adelaide.
Weather forecast in Adelaide
The much-anticipated contest is expected to be marred by rain on Day1. There is a 40% chance of rain on the opening day of the pink ball Test. There is a forecast for afternoon showers on December 6 and a temperature will hover around 30°C which will eventually dip till 27 °C. There will be 98% cloud cover, which could make the conditions pacer-friendly. Day 2 has a 14% chance of rain with no showers expected on Day 3. However, the teams would hope for the match to not go till Day 5 with a 74% chance of rain.
