Rohit pushes himself down the order

Meanwhile, Rohit left for Australia on November 23 and reached the country on November 24. After landing in Australia, the India skipper didn’t waste any time as he straight away hit the nets in the training facilities at the Optus Stadium in Perth as he batted against the pink ball.

Rohit returned in the Indian team in the ongoing warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI as he won the toss and opted to field first. As per the playing XI given for the warm-up fixture, Rohit put himself down to number five as he let KL Rahul to continue opening the innings.

Rahul played a crucial role opening the innings in Rohit’s absence in the first Test in Perth as he played a brilliant innings of 77 (176). Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal forged a crucial 201-run stand in the second innings and helped India take a massive lead of 247 runs. Rahul batted with great composure at the crease as he left the ball early on and pounced on every loose delivery by the Australians.

The right-handed batter was under immense pressure coming into the series as he had accumulated a string of low scores. Hence, it seems that the management is not willing to hamper Rahul’s confidence as the captain himself has decided to drop down in the batting order.
