Harbhajan Singh backs India to make it to WTC final if they win in Adelaide

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed India to reach the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) if they win the upcoming second Test in Adelaide against Australia. Notably, India are already leading the series by 1-0 having beaten the hosts by 295 runs in the first game of the series in Perth.
However, the Asian Giants are set to face an even tougher challenge in the second Test in Adelaide which is supposed to be a day/night game. Ahead of the fixture, Harbhajan Singh feels India can make it to the WTC final if they manage to thrash Australia in the second Test.
“If they win another game, I think India will definitely go into the WTC (final) but it’s not important to reach there, it’s important to win we will reach there,” Harbhajan told PTI.
India don’t have happy memories with Adelaide as they were bundled out for their lowest Test score ever, 36, in their previous game at the venue. However, after that humiliating loss, India managed to turn things around in the remaining games of the series on the previous tour and managed to win their second consecutive series down under.
India on top spot in WTC standings
Meanwhile, India are currently on the top spot in the WTC standings with nine wins from 15 matches having a points percentage of 61.11%. They’re closely followed by South Africa who occupy the second spot with five wins from nine matches having a points percentage of 59.26%. On the other hand, Australia sit on the third spot with eight wins from 13 matches having points percentage of 57.69%.
India need to beat Australia by a margin of 4-1 to qualify to the final without depending on other results. However, a 3-2 result could also work in their favour but they will have to depend on Australia’s loss in their next away series against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, India will also have to hope that the ongoing New Zealand series finishes with 1-1 result which will clear the path for their WTC final qualification. Hence, the Rohit Sharma-led side has a lot of permutations and combinations to focus on in the remaining games of the series.
