Australia batter Travis Head has dismissed suggestions that there is a rift in the camp following their Perth Test loss to India. The hosts were outplayed by India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and they ended up losing the match by 295 runs.
After Day 3’s play, Josh Hazlewood would court controversy as he made some surprising comments to the reporters when asked how the Aussies were planning to overcome the big deficit. The pacer suggested that the batters should be asked about that and he was going to rest up for the next game. Pundits and former cricketers like Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan went on to suggest that there is some friction within the group following their poor performance.
“That to me tells me there is a potentially divided changing room. I don’t know if that’s the case, I might be reading too much into that,” said Gilchrist.
Now, Head has come out to dismiss the notion that Australia camp is divided. Speaking to 7News, the Aussie batter said that people have ‘picked the bones out of a comment’ that came after a poor performance from the players.
Head said that it was ok to be critical, and the team stuck together and had some good conversations after the game.
“I think (people have) picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine,” Head, who scored Australia’s highest second-innings run total (89), told 7NEWS.
“It’s OK to be critical, we understand that. We stuck together, had some good conversations, definitely no fractions.”
“All the boys hung out together last night,” said Head.
What Cummins said about rift rumours
Australia captain Pat Cummins would come out and say that the squad is one of the tightest teams he has been part of and there were no issues at all. `
“There’s plenty of times where the batters have dragged us bowlers out of tight situations and we’ve done the same,” said Cummins.
“It’s probably one of the tightest teams I’ve ever played with. We really enjoy playing cricket together. We’ve been through a lot the last few years, the core group. So no problems there. Everyone gets along really well, so all good.”
Australia will now look to bounce back in the Adelaide Test, starting from December 6.
