‘Special’ Yashasvi Jaiswal has cricketing world at his feet: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was in awe of Yashasvi Jaiswal and claimed that the Indian opener has the cricketing world at his feet after his knock in the Perth Test on Saturday, November 23. After a failure in the first innings, Jaiswal went on to score his first fifty in Australia to help India take control of things at stumps on Day 2.

Jaiswal and Rahul added 172 runs for the first wicket as India ended the day with a lead of 218 runs. The young opener remained unbeaten on 90 and will be eyeing his first hundred in Australia. Speaking to the broadcasters, Gavaskar hailed Jaiswal as a special player who is hungry for runs.

The Indian legend claimed that the Indian opener is someone who isn’t happy with just a hundred and is always looking to score a 150 or a 200 if he gets the chance.

“This boy is special. Where he has come from, the way he has been batting, the way he has been handling things.”

“Against England, he scored more than 700 runs in 5 Tests with 2 double hundreds earlier in the year. He looks so hungry for runs, which is what you want. We as batters used to say, I want a hundred. He says, let me get a 150 or a 200.”

“He is hungry for runs and that’s exactly what Indian cricket needs. A left-hander, who at the top of the order can create problem for the bowlers. He brings a completely different perspective. He loves to play his shots, and isn’t an ultra watchful batter. He will play his shots.”

“Yashasvi Jaiswal has the cricketing world at his feet,” said Gavaskar.

Jaiswal golden run in 2024

Jaiswal has been India’s best batter in 2024 as he has scored 1209 runs in 12 matches with an average of 57.57. During his knock on Saturday, Jaiswal would also break Gautam Gambhir’s record for the most runs by an Indian left-handed batter in Tests in a calendar year.

Jaiswal is also chasing down Joe Root, who has scored 1338 runs this year in Tests.
