Would have continued playing till 50: James Anderson on his retirement

Former England pacer James Anderson revealed the reason behind registering his name in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 42-year-old’s name appeared as a surprise on the list of registered players announced by the BCCI on November 5, with a base price of Rs 1.25 crore. This marks Anderson’s first attempt to join the IPL since its inception in 2008, a decision that has sparked considerable interest. The move comes just months after his retirement from Test cricket, as he is on the verge of starting a new chapter in his illustrious career.

“That’s the whole point of going into auction. I want to play again. Whether I get picked or not is a different matter. But I hvae a feeling inside me that I have got more to offer in some shape or form. However, long down the line that might be. In whatever capacity, I am not sure yet. But I am very keen to play. I feel very fit, I have been bowling still I feel like i am in a good place so I would love to get the opportunity to play somewhere,” Anderson told Sky Sports.

Anderson is just keeping his finger’s crossed ahead of the mega auction, which will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.

“Nothing yet. We’ll just have to wait and see; keep my fingers crossed and see what happens,” Anderson said.

Fuel left in Anderson’s tank

It is worth noting that Anderson retired from international cricket this summer and has taken up a coaching role. Talking about his inclusion in the auction, Anderson opined that he is excited to play in the IPL 2025, given that he is picked by any franchise. Besides, he also said that he was open to contribute in any possible role in a bid to give back to cricket.

“If it were in my hands, I would’ve continued playing till 50. I believe I am fit and performing well. England were looking at the future, which is perfectly fine”.

Post-retirement, Anderson remained involved with England’s Test side, serving as their fast-bowling consultant during the home summer and the overseas tour of Pakistan. Now, the veteran seamer is set to test his skills in the high-octane world of T20 cricket.
