Abhishek Sharma flop-show angers India fans: Intent cannot be excuse

India batter Abhishek Sharma continued his poor run of form in the 2nd T20I match of the South Africa series. Playing at the St. George’s Park at Gqeberha, Abhishek fell for 4 off 5 balls against Gerald Coetzee. The Indian fans were not happy with Abhishek’s shot choices and let it known on X on Sunday, 10 November.
After scoring a hundred in his first tour of Zimbabwe, Abhishek has consistently scored below 20 runs in each of his innings. The tendency of taking the attack to the opposition has been Abhishek’s downfall in recent times and it was no different today as the batter top-edged Gerald Cortzee’s short ball in the 5th ball of the second over of the match.

I know Abhishek Sharma plays a very high intent type game in T20 but so do the other players. So, that can’t be an excuse to defend his string of low scores. He needs to only play some good knocks of 20-30 runs in his style at least.

Abhishek Sharma is yet another example of why the next in line players must be allowed to play overseas leagues if accelerating their development is indeed a priority

Abhishek Sharma is such an inconsistent opener. It’s unreal how scoring runs on the flattest tracks earned him an India spot and preference over many far better openers. There’s a reason he didn’t perform before this IPL.

Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal highlighted India’s dismal start in the second T20I game. Apart from Abhishek, Sanju Samson (0) and Suryakumar Yadav (4) fell early in their innings, leaving India reeling in the powerplay. Tilak Varma offered some resistance but fell for 20 runs against Aiden Markram.
At the time of writing, India were 64/4 in 10.3 overs with Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel at the crease.
