West Ham United confirmed that their star striker Michail Antonio is in stable condition and under medical care after being involved in a serious car accident on December 7. The news has come as a relief to fans, who were worried after initial reports. In their statement, West Ham requested fans to respect Antonio and his family’s privacy, addressing the rise of rumors surrounding the incident.

Images of Antonio’s badly damaged Ferrari in Essex spread on social media, leading to concern about the extent of his injuries. Essex fire services confirmed they rescued the 34-year-old striker after receiving reports of the crash. The car was severely damaged, and some reports suggested Antonio was airlifted to a hospital, though this remains unconfirmed.

“West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area. Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital,” the statement said.

“At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family. The club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course,” it added.

Signed initially as a winger, his ability to adapt has seen him play in various positions, including full-back, midfield, and now as a striker, where he has made the No. 9 shirt his own.

In 2023, Antonio helped West Ham secure their first major trophy in over 40 years, lifting the Europa Conference League trophy.
