England batter Harry Brook called his hundred in Wellington as his favourite as he saved his side from a collapse in the first innings. England were 23 for 3 and then 43 for 4 before Brook decided to go on the offensive.

Brook went on to score his hundred in just 91 balls and ended up scoring 123 off 115 deliveries and his innings consisted of 11 boundaries and 5 sixes. England would end up scoring 280 runs in the first innings and have the hosts reeling at 86 for 5 by stumps on Day 1. Speaking to the reporters, as quoted by Sky Sports, Brook said that he enjoyed his knock in Wellington a lot.

The England batter felt that most of the balls came out of the middle of the bat and felt special batting in an aggressive manner and put pressure on the New Zealand bowlers.

“I think that might be my favourite hundred so far, I enjoyed that one a lot,” said Brook.

“Most of the balls came out of the middle of the bat and it feels pretty special to be batting like that.”

“We were three down when I came in and the pitch was doing quite a bit. It was seaming and swinging so I’m just glad I put my attacking mode on. I really took it to them and put them under a lot of pressure.”

Best mode of defence was attack

Brook said that the hosts were trying to bowl at the stumps early on, and it was the best time for him to take the offensive to them. The England batter claimed that attack was the best mode of defence for him and was happy to see it come off.

“They had to try and bowl at the stumps early on and I felt like the time to run down was then; cash in when it’s full.”

“The best mode of defence for me was attack and thankfully it came off,” said Brook.

This was Brook’s 7th overseas hundred as he has an average of 91.5 away from home.
