Harry Brook reacts to 171 vs New Zealand: Want to be known as match winning player
England’s rising star Harry Brook scored a magnificent 171 on Day 3 of the 1st Test vs New Zealand at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch. He reacted to the whirlwind knock and said that these are the kind of innings he wants to be known for and aim to be a match-winner for his team. Brook, while batting at No. 5, came to the crease at 45/3 in England’s 1st innings. Brook already has the 2nd highest batting average in minimum 10 innings in away Test5s with 89.40. He is just behind the legendary Sir Don Bradman’s away average of 102.84.
“I don’t even know if I have been dropped five times in Test cricket in 1 innings was pretty lucky. I had a jam on me knees this morning, so I was a bit jammy in this innings. But I made the most of it out in the middle. I am glad I could move past, them drops and cash in and make a big one,” Brook told in the video posted by England Cricket.

Harry Brook showcased his brilliance with a commanding seventh Test century. He formed a crucial 151-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Ollie Pope. The duo’s stand on the second day proved pivotal in shifting the momentum in England’s favour during the first Test against New Zealand. While New Zealand’s fielding had been lacklustre, Glenn Phillips delivered a moment of brilliance in the 53rd over, taking a stunning catch at gully to dismiss Pope.
“These are the innings I really want to be known for. I want to be known as a match-winning player and put us in a match-winning situation for us to win the game. We are in a really strong position to win the game tomorrow,” he added.
