The Maharashtra Assembly elections have been characterized by controversies, allegations of vote suppression and booth capturing, and clashes between party workers. Key political figures such as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Devendra Padnavis were among the early voters. Despite the high drama, the voter turnout remained underwhelming, crossing 61%. The results are to be announced on November 23rd. The elections have been further marred by a cash-for-votes scandal involving BJP’s Vinod Taure, leading to an inquiry by the Election Commission. The Mahavikar Sagadi has expressed concern over these allegations. Additionally, the BJP has accused the Mahavikar Sagadi of involvement in a Bitcoin scam, implicating Nana Patole and Supriya Sule, who have both denied the allegations. The elections also saw a star-studded turnout in Mumbai, with several Bollywood celebrities casting their votes.
