Liverpool boss Arne Slot has said that goalkeeper Alisson is fit and available for their upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Girona on Tuesday, December 10. Alisson has been out of action since early October due to a hamstring injury, but it hasn’t affected the performance of the Reds on the field.

Liverpool is at the top of the Premier League table with a 4-point lead over Chelsea, having played a game less. During Alisson’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped up in the goalkeeper’s spot and done well. Speaking to the reporters, as quoted by Reuters, Slot said he was happy to have Alisson back in the mix.

The Liverpool boss also praised Kelleher and said he expects Alisson to come in and do a better job than his understudy Kelleher.

“He is fit. I think it speaks for itself if you can play with Alisson, who has been so outstanding for this club for so many years and for Brazil, that it is definitely nice to have him back and available,” Slot said.

“But if you then look at how his replacement (Kelleher) did, it is not going to be easy to do it even better, so we expect definitely the same and maybe on margins a bit better.”

“But Caoimhin did so well so we can say we have two great goalkeepers who can do the job for us.”

Slot and his men got an extra day off as their clash with Everton was called off due to bad weather conditions. The Liverpool boss felt it was a good call to postpone the Merseyside derby but admitted that he won’t be looking to rotate his side a lot.

“If we played Everton we might have played the same team but you never know what that intense fixture could lead to,” Slot told a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game.

“I think it was a good decision to cancel it and if you play a special game like that it needs to be played in good circumstances, it was a good decision.

“Now everyone is really ready so no reason to rotate from last match, so we will start with a very good team tomorrow.”

Liverpool are unbeaten in the Champions League so far, having won all their 5 matches so far.
