IND vs AUS, Brisbane Test Day 2 Weather Forecast: Will rain play spoilsport?

Day 1 of the third Test between India and Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane turned out to be a damp squib. Only 13.2 overs were possible on Day 1 after Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. At Stumps, Australia would be the happier of the two teams as their openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney did not let the Indian trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep make early inroads.

Rain halted proceedings plenty of times and in the end, at 11:45 IST (16:15 local time), the match officials, in consultation with the ground-staff, called off the day’s play. The last spell of showers started at 07:21 IST (11:51 local time), after which play did not resume.

How’s the weather for Day 2?

The weather forecast for Sunday is much better compared to Saturday. But a rain threat will remain throughout. There is a chance of a shower in the morning. Playing conditions will be humid and clouds will hover over the ground throughout.

Temperatures will be around the 31-degree Celsius mark throughout the duration of the day. There is a ‘minor flood warning’ from Saturday 21:26 to Monday 00:26. The overcast conditions are most likely to help the fast bowlers stay in the game throughout.

To make up for the lost overs, matches from Day 2 onwards will start at 5:20 AM IST (9:50 AM local time). 98 overs will be bowled every day for the remaining four days of the Test match.

Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep will be looking to give India regular breakthroughs. McSweeney and Khawaja, on the other hand, would be aiming to carry on and build a strong opening partnership.

For Australia, the Gabba has been a happy hunting ground, although they have lost a couple of Tests at the venue in the last two years. India, meanwhile, must be hoping to replicate their performance from January 2021.
