Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is highly impressed with Nitish Kumar Reddy after his Test debut in Perth. Notably, Reddy made his debut during the first Test of the series against Australia and impressed with his all round skills. The 21-year-old played a crucial knock of 41 (59) in the first innings and helped India post 150 on the board.

Later in the second innings, he played another quick fire knock of 38* (27) and helped India extend their lead beyond 500. With the ball, he shattered Mitchell Marsh’s stumps to register his maiden Test wicket. Following his impressive debut, Gavaskar extolled the youngster saying his performance belied the fact that he was making his Test debut.

“These two hundreds were terrific, as was the 200-plus opening partnership, but the most impressive innings was from Nitish Reddy. He showed an awareness of what was required which belied the fact that he was making his Test debut,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

Further ahead, Gavaskar recalled his first innings knock where he was keen to pounce on every scoring opportunities and ended up as the top scorer.

After impressing in Perth, Nitish continued his good form in the pink ball warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI as he played another marvelous knock of 42 (32) and helped India chase down the target of 241 in the truncated 46-over game. Following his selection in the playing XI for the series opener, Gavaskar wasn’t too pleased with his selection and questioned he was ready for Test cricket. Meanwhile, given his terrific performances on the tour so far, Nitish is likely to keep his place in the second Test in Adelaide which will be day/night affair.
