The Australian stars revealed the challenges of facing the pink ball ahead of the 2nd Test vs India in Adelaide. Former Australia captain Steve Smith opened up about the unpredictable nature of the pink ball, which tends to swing more often than the red ball. Meanwhile, Travis Head is eager for the day-night Tests, which he has managed well to do in the past as well. The Australians boast of a great record in pink ball Tests, having won 11 out of 12 outings. Meanwhile, Australia are unbeaten in 7 day-night Tests at home.

“Yeah, pink ball. So it can be challenging at different times of the day or night, depending on where you bat and the situation of the game and ball, and all those kinds of things. So just being really switched on. The pink ball can be a little bit unpredictable at times. So yeah, just being really focused,” Smith said in the video posted by Star Sports.

The Australian captain gave the bowler’s perspective and said that one should just stick to their basics.

“I think, you know, all the basics. Stay the same. Really? Sometimes the game go at different paces as the ball gets older and softer or is hard, but outside of that it’s test,” Pat Cummins said in the same video.

Australia suffered a 295-run loss in 1st Test as their Perth fortress was breached by the Indian team. The Rohit Sharma-led side will also have revenge in their minds from last time’s 36 all-out at the same venue. However, Travis Head, who also scored a fighting 89 in the last match, could be one among those who could challenge India.

Head’s brilliant record in pink ball Test

“It can be a tough wicket to bat on. Obviously, the drop in wicket, you gotta score in different ways. I think it suits me. Obviously, I have batted there a lot. So been nice to get some runs in the last couple of years there and try to do the same again this year. It’s always a nice week for me. It’s relaxed. It’s when I’m in my own bed. I got a lot of friends and family. I got a lot of mates that come watch, and it’s just a good feel for the week. So, I’ll be looking forward to that.

Travis Head has scored two hundreds and three fifties in 8 pink ball Tests for Australia.

“I think the day-night test match as well. This summer, they do it extremely well. Great atmosphere. Ball was always doing something. The wickets are obviously doing a fair bit. So it makes for an exciting week,” Travis Head said.
