The official social media handle of the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, shared snippets from the meet-up with the Indian team ahead of the practice game in Canberra. Day 1 of the pink-ball practice match witnessed a delay in start due to rain. Before the start of the game, Albanese posed for the shutterbugs with the Indian team, who were all set in their Test jersey. The Australian PM also interacted with the Indian team and was spotted having a special chat with star India batter Virat Kohli.
“The PM’s XI and Indian cricket teams are keen to get out on the field. The rain has delayed play for today, but it’s been great to chat with players and fans at Manuka Oval,” the caption read. Albanese also took over the commentating duties for the practice match. He went on to call the India vs Australia rivalry bigger than the Ashes.
“I think it is now, the population, if you look at the IPL, is just such a huge part of global cricket now. Prime Minister Modi, there I was there at Narendra Modi stadium there in Ahmedabad for the test match and the crowd was enormous. Of course, it seats more people than any ground in the world, and they’re so passionate,” said Albanese on Fox Sports.

“BGT bigger than Ashes”
Further speaking ahead, he said that the five-match Test series has further intensified the rivalry between the two sides and the Boxing Day Test at the MCG is going to be huge.
“And of course, we played the final in the international cricket series (World Test Championship) was played in London. And we were successful there, but in the series, there’s a real rivalry and now I would suggest even more. It used to happen sometimes just a three-test series. It’s going to be Boxing Day will be huge on December 26 I think, you know, they could get 100,000 people there, and it’s great for Australian tourism as well,” he added.
Recently, the Indian team was hosted by the Australian PM at the Parliament House in Canberra ahead of their two-day warm-up fixture against the Australia Prime Minister’s XI. PM Albanese engaged in light-hearted conversations with several players and shared the photographs of the meeting on social media.
